Honouring pastors: a day of recognition

On October 15, 2023, under the guidance of Pastor Hérold Norélus, the pastoral association of the Quebec Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church organized a festive day dedicated to recognizing and expressing gratitude towards pastors and their families.

This annual celebration aims to highlight the invaluable ministry of several retired pastors who have significantly contributed to the advancement of the Adventist work in Quebec, such as José Élysée, Roland Geiser, Daniel Razakaria, and Paul Scalliet. Pastor Remy Ballais also led the group of gospel ministers in a special moment of prayer and consecration for pastoral families.

During this day, the association of shepherdesses also sought to pay tribute to the pastors’ wives, who often work in the shadows of their husbands, playing an essential role in caring for children and making numerous sacrifices for the well-being of the family.

The presence of a special guest, Pastor Damson Oppong from the Ontario Conference, formerly the director of the pastoral association, was an honor for this day. He highlighted the multiple challenges pastors face in an ever-changing world. Despite these obstacles, he encouraged pastors and their families to draw on spiritual resources to continue their mission.

After a delicious meal, songs dedicated to the glory of our Lord, and the inspiring words of Pastor Damson Oppong, Pastor Norélus concluded the evening by expressing gratitude to the three administrators for their contribution to the Quebec territory.

In summary, this Pastor Appreciation Day was a powerful moment of recognition and celebration for these men and women who dedicate their lives to the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Quebec. It also highlighted the crucial role of pastors’ wives and emphasized the challenges they face in the contemporary world. Through spiritual resources, they are encouraged to persevere in their calling and continue to serve the Adventist community.
